We’re thrilled to share an exciting update that makes storytime even more meaningful for Washington families. Imagination Library of Washington now offers a fully bilingual English/Spanish book collection—giving families the option to receive every monthly book in both English and Spanish. This new program option is perfect for:

  • Families raising bilingual children
  • Spanish-speaking households
  • Parents who want to introduce a second language early

With the launch of the new bilingual book collection on June 3rd, more than 2,600 Washington families with children enrolled in Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library have already opted in to start receiving each book in English and Spanish beginning this August. The new bilingual English/Spanish book collection supports more than early literacy—it nurtures healthy brain development and school readiness by providing rich language experiences from the start. These shared reading moments also strengthen the bond between children and the adults who love them, building the foundation for a bright, connected future.

“We are delighted that Washington families now have enhanced enrollment opportunities, and the program can make further early learner impacts,” stated Imagination Library of Washington Executive Director, Brooke Fisher-Clark.

In June 2021, The Dollywood Foundation launched an initiative to better support Spanish-speaking families across the U.S. Since then, they’ve made significant progress—including updating their website with Spanish translations, partnering with a new West Coast book distributor, creating new marketing assets, and developing a fully bilingual English/Spanish Book Collection. They successfully piloted the Bilingual English/Spanish book collection in California in 2023, and after a year of testing and learning, rolled it to out another five states in 2024: Tennessee, D.C., North Carolina, Ohio, and Delaware.

Now, 15 other states have joined the movement to offer the bilingual program to families; Colorado, Montana, Kansas, Arkansas, Alabama, Louisiana, Kentucky, Maine, Illinois, Oregon, Indiana, Oklahoma, Missouri, West Virginia, and New Mexico.

Here’s how families can opt in to receive the new bilingual English/Spanish book collection:

  • Already Enrolled in the Imagination Library? You can switch to the bilingual collection by logging into your Parent Portal and updating your language preferences.
  • New to the Program? Visit imaginationlibrary.com to sign up and select your preferred language during registration. Enrollment is always free for families in participating communities.

We’re proud to support greater access to early literacy through this new bilingual book collection—opening doors for more Spanish-speaking families to share the joy of reading. Thanks to Penguin Random House, many of these beloved titles have been expertly translated into Spanish just for Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.
